Guyana is located on the Atlantic Ocean and is 85% covered by rainforest. The highest point is the tepui (table top mountain) Roraima with 2810 m above sea level. It is the highest table top mountain in the world. The climate is tropical because Guyana is one degree of latitude near the equator. Guyana has one of the lowest population densities on earth and at the same time an extraordinarily high level of biodiversity. In the Potaro Siparuni region lies the (only) national park Kaieteur, with endemic fauna and flora and a spectacular waterfall. As in all tropical countries, the bird world is rich in species, there are twice as many bird species here as in all of Europe. Guyana has over 100 tepuis; such inselbergs are prone to develop endemism. However, endemism is limited to the tepuis and not to political borders, which is the only reason Guyana strictly speaking has no endemic bird species. Guyana is the only country in South America where English is the official language. The country is severely endangered by the climate catastrophe, because about 70% of the population would lose their home if the sea level rose by 1 meter. This multilingual (en, es, fr, de, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of Guyana in color. As a bonus, links to HD videos of more than 60 bird species are included. Read more
